Monday 27 July 2015: The Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) has issued a new high value commemorative note printed on polymer substrate. The new 5,000 Rufiyaa has been designed by local designer Abdullah Nashaath and was printed on Safeguard by De La Rue, in close association with the MMA.
This commemorative note is issued to mark the 50th Anniversary of independence of Maldives. It depicts 50 years of development and the peaceful approach taken by the country in obtaining independence.
As previously reported in May, the MMA is going to issue a whole new series of notes on De La Rue’s polymer substrate. This new note series of Maldives named “Ran Dhihafaheh” will be launched in October this year and will be issued into circulation before the end of the year. The new note series will represent a radical departure in design from the previous notes.
